Pahawang Island, Lampung

Our Adventure in Lampung

Day 1

We had just returned from Cirebon to Jakarta by train and hopped in a taxi to rush to the place our group was supposed to meet before starting off on our trip to Pahawang Island, Lampung. Jakarta traffic is bad, it took us almost 2 hours to get to the place which is only 8 kms away from the train station. For your reference, we joined Langgeng Wisata Tour and Travel for 2D1N Pahawang Island trip for Rp. 630,000 each ($48).

We were lucky that the tour guide was willing to wait for us as we were a half an hour late. And since we had brought a large luggage case for both of us, we had trouble packing everything in the van as there was little room for storage. In case you're wondering why we didn't use backpack, we had a full week of adventure to 3 different places, we thought it would be convenient to both of us to bring the luggage instead and we were wrong. We essentially had to squeeze it in the backseat with us and then we were off to the Merak Harbor to catch our ship to Lampung. After a 4 hour drive, we made it into the harbor and ultimately made it onto the ship. The weather was rather hot that day that we decided to pay a little extra (Rp. 10,000 or 0.75 cents) for Business Class solely for the on board air conditioning.

Cloudy day
We got some sleep until we arrived at the docks after about 3 hours and hopped into another vehicle for another 3-4 hour drive. By the time we arrived to our destination, it was about 7 AM and time for breakfast. After breakfast, we changed and hopped on our next boat to go snorkeling. Our first destination was Kelagian Kecil Island and then to Cukuh Bedil.

But first, let us take a group picture
People, people everywhere
After snorkeling, we went to our homestay in Pahawang Besar Island.

Traditional house called "Rumah Panggung" as our homestay
That night, we hung out at the beach while another group on the island were lighting up lanterns. We were barbecuing as well and one of our friends was still busy fishing because he didn't get any during our snorkeling time.

Day 2

We spent another day snorkeling, this time to Nemo Captivity, Gosong Bekri, Pahawang Kecil Island and back to Kelagian Besar Island. We saw more fish in these areas and the weather was better than yesterday, and finally our friend got some fish that could make him smile.

Abandoned sea shop
We walked through the Gosong Pasir (meaning white sand in the local language) at Pahawang Kecil Island as our last destination. When the tide is low, you can go to another island by walking. The water is not more than half a meter high, and the island is also known for the mangrove forest.

We were so grateful because finally, on this island, there was a small shop that sells COLD DRINKS. Anyway, all good things must come to an end and so was our journey in Pahawang Island, Lampung. We took the same long ass ride. This time, the ship offers Executive Class with additional charge Rp. 15,000 ($1.13) which is better than Business Class.

We get sofa (bed)
And live karaoke
PS: Next destination: Balikpapan, East Kalimantan.
